Halloween is quickly approaching, which means there is no time like the present to jump on the spook craze. Yes, you could join the crowd of moviegoers waiting to be scared senseless from their seats during the newest horror flick, or you could be the star of your own production by wandering through the creepy halls of each of these scary museums.
Are you afraid of the dark? Does the sight of death creep you out? Does the smell of fear completely drive you insane? Then you should think twice about visiting these attractions, where your only mission will be to get out alive.
England: London Dungeon
Terrified visitors translates into a job well done for the theatrical performers of the London Dungeon. The actors are determined to have their audiences running for the hills, and they do not disappoint. For 90 minutes, legends from London’s past come to life with special effects, scenes and untold stories. Moving from room to room along the eerie dungeon, notorious figures like Jack the Ripper and Guy Fawkes reemerge daunting visitors with their scare tactics.
The Drop Dead: Drop Ride To Doom takes the visitor through the deathly use of a noose and the effects and sounds that occur once the executioner has tightened the ropes. And you don’t want to be proven guilty for a heinous crime at The Judge & Courtroom or you'll be in deep trouble. Below London’s bustling streets a world of horror exists, where the villains are real and fear rules Brittannia.
Connecticut: Witch’s Dungeon Classic Movie Museum
When residents of Connecticut and visitors are craving an uncanny adventure they flock to the Witch’s Dungeon Classic Movie Museum, which is only open on weekends during October. So if you are intrigued by Frankenstein, Dracula as well as other inhuman creatures then you’ll want to get here quick.
Classic horror scenes are awakened with creative realistic figurines fully dressed in costume and make-up as well as props incorporated with narrations that guide visitors through each freaky display.
Mexico: Mummies of Guanajuato
The cemetery fails in comparison to this death-infused museum, specifically because it is the final resting place for many mummified bodies. The deceased displays lost their lives during a cholera outbreak centuries ago, but their naked bodies were recovered in their current states because of the soil that was used to preserve their corpses.
From adults to infants, the horror that serves as preamble to the story of the Mummies of Guanajuato is powerful enough to make even the bravest visitor wake up screaming with nightmares. If you’ve ever imagined staring death in the face, here is the opportunity to see it stare right back at you.
California: Museum of Death
Death; it’s inevitable. So a visit to the Museum of Death is simply an exploration of one of life's natural occurrences, right? That’s what the founders had in mind when the created the gory Hollywood attraction after acknowledging death was a subject rarely discussed. Making it their focal point of interest, the museum sparks deep conversations with mind-boggling displays like body bags, coffins, devices used during autopsies and ghastly photos.
However, the Museum of Death takes its experiences much further by showcasing photographs of Charles Manson in addition to the freaky beheaded skull of Henry Landru, who is also known as the Blue Beard of Paris. There are also videos capturing the Traces of Death and coldblooded killers for those bold enough to watch. For about an hour, visitors are free to wander through its gloomy premises, where a death wish transforms into a frightening reality.
