It’s the vibrations of the bass. Strobes of light highlighting every cool dance move. Endless rounds of drinks. A reason to let go and feel the music through your veins. The thrill of a good party brings tourists from all over the world to destinations across the globe seeking a vibrant nightlife.
We’ve all heard about New York City, Cancun and even Bangkok’s intense party scenes, but in the following six cities, their wild celebrations seem to be a secret society that requires an undisclosed VIP pass. Well it's time we put on our dancing shoes and hit their floors to get down like the locals in these lesser-known party towns.
Amsterdam, the Netherlands
By day the Dutch capital is a melting pot of cultures, where cobbled streets are busily traveled by peddlers, and bold antique structures are filled with historical artifacts, the aromas of coffee and exquisite collections of art. To the people of Amsterdam, the magic in the air constantly hovering over the city is called Gezellig- more commonly known as that cozy inescapable feeling that encompasses its atmosphere.
But when the sun has retreated behind Amsterdam’s historic masterpieces, a world dominated by night owls awakens. The Red Light District, now swarming with tourists, fulfills unspoken desires with girls seductively tempting their spectators from windows. The discos of Rembrantplein and Leidseplein thrive with thumping music and dancing fools toasting to an unforgettable night. And coffee shops saturated with marijuana-themed treats buzz with activity. Forget about hitting the sheets early, because if you really want to party hard then let the sun beat you home.
Berlin, Germany
If it’s a party that you want, then the German town of Berlin is happy to comply. After all, the city gained worldwide status as a techno capital when the fall of the Berlin Wall brought unity to Germany once more, causing its people to capitalize on their new found freedom by letting loose amid flashing lights.
Providing the perfect ambiance for a night on the town, Berlin quickly became frequented by local clubbers and tourists alike rubbing shoulders in sizzling hotspots like Sisyphos, Berghain Panorama Bar as well as Stattbad. Berlin continuously attracts party animals from all over the globe who don't mind shuffling their way through the thick crowds for a chance to prost (cheer) the night away.
Manila, Philippines
Manila, the capital of the Philippines, is known to throw a wild party. Just ask anyone who has survived one of its crazy clubs. Some may say the freaks come out at night here, and depending on the type of night you are looking for you might be in for quite a surprise.
When the clock strikes 6 p.m. even airports get into the party mood by transforming their lounges into festive nightspots with drinks and music. However, the nightlife of Manila continues deep into its streets in spots like Republiq which is notorious for having an intense sharp-dressing crowd.
Looking to bob your head to the rhythms of reggae? Then take a detour to The Collective in Mataki City. And for some celebrity spotting, the Prive bar in Bonifacio is the place to be. Full disclosure, not all of Manila's nocturnal adventures include stumbling out of its various dance venues. Some include chilling out over drinks at a café or belting out your favorite tune off-key while performing karaoke.
Ios, Greece
There’s no shortage of excitement when it comes to Ios’ nightlife, especially since there are a variety of bars and clubs sprinkled throughout its landscape. But it takes more than an amateur partier to make it through the night because the drinks are endless and the atmosphere is always jam-packed with action.
When hunger pangs begin to set in, restaurants with menus filled with Greek flavors cordially invite foodies in. And once the sun sets, Ios’ laid-back façade becomes a socialite’s paradise with places like Coo Bar and Astro Bar staying up way past bedtime. Whether you are wearing your dancing shoes or looking to meet a new friend, Ios’ party scene rules for partygoers of the Cyclades Islands.
Nassau, Bahamas
Ever wanted to party Bahamian-style? Well you may want to trip to Nassau to see how locals get down. From the glitz of edgy casinos illuminating the night to DJs posted at roundtables for hours on end, Nassau is every night owl’s haven.
And of course you’ll want to dress to impress while breaking out your best moves on the city’s waterfront, which comes to life with an array of bars and nightclubs with local and international hits that are heard for miles. And with a drink in hand, the vibrant nightlife of Nassau promises to be a memorable experience (if you haven’t downed too many shots). Nevertheless, if you’re looking for a bit of Lady Luck then head to Cable Beach’s Crystal Palace Casino or Paradise Island’s Atlantis Casino for world-class gaming action among the best high rollers.
Mancora, Peru
Don’t be fooled by Mancora’s quiet demeanor because the Peruvian city is much more than a sleepy beach town. As soon as it gets too dark to surf the sea’s giant waves, a loud noise disrupts the silence. That interruption is typically caused by beachgoers, backpackers and socialites drawn to the various venues permeating the atmosphere with vibrating music.
During Mancora’s nights, the drinks are plentiful and places like Iguana guarantee a night that rivals the world’s greatest party cities. Although Mancora is small, size definitely doesn’t matter when you’re arm’s length away from Peru’s famous celebs and celebrating under the diamond filled sky. Because once you’ve been bitten by the town’s party bug you’ll quickly see that personalities here are bigger than life.
