Celebrate Your Bachelor Party Without the Doghouse
Features & Advice Lisa Iannucci July 02, 2017

Looking for a place to let loose, blow off some steam, make memories with your best buddies before your wedding and not end up in the doghouse after the bachelor party is over?
“Despite their reputation, bachelor parties don’t have to be a cause for tension for engaged couples,” said Megan Velez, Destination Weddings Travel Group.
“Rather than booking tickets for a Hangover-inspired trip to Las Vegas, consider jetting off to tropical destinations like Mexico, the Dominican Republic or Costa Rica. In addition to soaking up the sun on the beach, the group can get into all sorts of adrenaline-filled adventures, like zip lining, scuba diving and mountain trekking. Of course, that doesn’t mean you can’t catch some drinks at the resort bar—it just means you’ll get to experience a variety of activities throughout your stay.”
Hard Rock Punta Cana
Sara Locke recommends a good time at Hard Rock Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.
“The resort is huge, sits on a gorgeous beach, has both the best casino and best golf course in the Caribbean and plenty of things to do,” said Locke of Book Better Travel.
Get Sporty
“Horse races, such as the Kentucky Derby or European car races, such as the Monaco Grand Prix, can be a very fun and classy way for guys to get away together,” said Ashley Metesh-McCoy, owner of Kinship Vacations, in Fort Eustis, Virginia.
Think Out-of-the-Box
“Chartering a sailboat and sailing along the coast or renting a cabin near a national park such as Grand Teton in Wyoming, is also a really memorable way to celebrate upcoming nuptials,” said Metesh-McCoy.

Think Mickey
“Most bachelors may think Las Vegas, but I suggest Walt Disney World,” said Margie Lenau of Wonderland Family Vacations in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
“When the boys go to Disney, it is a very different experience. They are usually more action oriented. They may ride the thrill rides more than once, during the day and at night, visit ESPN on the Boardwalk and have a burger while watching a game.
Lenau noted that Shula's in the Dolphin Resort on the Boardwalk has great steaks.
“Afterward, take a boat ride to Epcot,” she said. “Epcot has the World Showcase, and there are 11 countries there. The boys can drink their way around the world, getting beer or specialty drinks in every country, along with snacks. Since Disney provides the transportation—or a taxi is easily available and inexpensive—there is no need to drink and drive. Disney makes every experience special, so they can wear a Celebration button and everyone will know they are a bachelor party.”
If the timing is right, Lenau said that the guys can catch an Atlanta Braves spring training game in the ESPN Sports Complex.
“To keep the cost down, there's no need to go into the parks,” she said. “The Disney Resorts, Disney Springs and the Boardwalk area have tons of things to do. It should be pretty easy to stay out of trouble in Walt Disney World.”
