Features & Advice Cherese Weekes March 07, 2014

According to Surfline, the Galapagos Islands have been just named the "Best Surfing Destination" in March 2014. And while Darwin's old stomping grounds offer up some tasty waves, they're far from the only natural selection for those seeking the surf.
Join as we hang ten totally righteous surf destinations on you for your tube-shooting pleasure.
Tavarua Island, Fiji
In Tavarua, surfing is not only an aquatic adventure; it is a lifestyle. With the South Pacific Ocean harmoniously singing at its feet, vacationers flock here for the chance to test its scintillating waters by dodging its gigantic waves in hopes of not wiping out.
Tararua offers a euphoric atmosphere, bathed in the essence of colorful reefs and an energy that draws only the most passionate beach bums.
Cancun, Mexico
The city of Cancun is known for its partying atmosphere, idyllic weather and its pristine white coastlines. However, its beaches are not only perfect for tanning in the sun or hopping in the ocean for a quick swim. They are also a surfer’s dream, especially the sugary playground of Playa Chac Mool, more suitable for the experienced swimmer because of its consistent strong currents.
If there is no shame in your game when falling off the board amid Cancun’s flood of beachgoers, then surfs up, dude.
Nosara, Guanacaste
Escape the jeering of the crowds as you ride those monolithic waves in the privacy of your very own beach. At least it will feel that once you feel the sand in between your toes on Nosara’s beaches. Known as a remote surf destination, there will be nothing standing in your way when it comes to sensing the motion of the ocean and concentrating on perfecting your skills.
You might just be grateful for the privacy here, as wipeouts are frequent. From the high tides of the Playa Goines to the shallow reefs of Playa Nosara, there is no room for beginners when attempting the feat of riding a double overhead wave.
Jeffreys Bay, South Africa
Affectionately known as J-Bay, this rich surfer’s paradise is home to some of the planet’s most righteous waves. You’ll be doing tricks in no time and ready to take your skills to new heights by competing in the annual Billabong Pro WCT in July, a competition that brings the world’s most elite surfers to show off their expertise.
With a backdrop adorned by the biggest water hills you will probably ever see, Jeffreys Bay is a premier hang 10 spot creating a deep relationship between die-hard surfers and their boards.
Tamarindo, Costa Rica
This quiet, rustic beauty embodies a slower pace off shore but transforms into an adventurous destination along its powdery shorelines. If you are looking for the ultimate wave-riding experience, head to Tamarindo Beach, a favorite among locals where gutsy surfers look to the ebb and flow of the ocean for enlightenment.
Florianópolis, Brazil
As one of the friendliest places on earth, Florianópolis or Floripa is as complex as it is pleasant. This beach favorite offers an exciting beach-party scene for lovers of the ocean anxiously waiting to dive into the swells of the water and complete the perfect balancing act from the tops of its highest waves.
You can head to Joaquina Beach for the opportunity to compete against other professionals or surf until the late hours to hone your craft. Stretched along 4,000 miles of sugary coastlines, these killer swells makes Florianópolis a mecca for the avid surfer.
Hanalei Bay, Hawaii
Of course when it comes to harmonious tides, Hawaii should be pretty prominent in the minds of every surf-crazed connoisseur.
Hanalei Bay may very well be the epicenter for catching the waves in Hawaii because of its high tides that consistently never disappoint, as well as the overhead tubes mastered only by the professional. Whether you are a beginner or expert, there are plenty of sublime opportunities to feel one with the water.
Siargao Island, Philippines
If you just can’t wait until the summer arrives in order to run board first in the ocean, you just may have to book your next flight to Siargao Island, this Philipino treasure's waves have become a world-class attraction in their own merit.
Specifically on Cloud 9, the avid surfer’s dream, known to accommodate every surfer’s desires with affordable suites, local eateries and of course the greatest waves to ever hit the waterways. You haven’t experienced anything like that of Siargao Island, “The Surfing Capital of the Philippines," until you have wiped out here.
Eisbach, Germany
Generally, rivers don't register with surf fanatics. If you happen to be at the Eisbach River in Munich, Germany be prepared for a shock. This manmade wave brings the most enthusiast surfers in their wet suits and boards in tow for a ride of a lifetime.
Although the wave’s fierceness is completely manipulated by a water pump and the surrounding rocks, it won't matter once you are in the midst of its powerful ebbs full-force — just try not to fall off.
Samoa
As beautiful as it is secluded, Samoa is one of those destinations that will stay with the surfer forever. Its canvas is painted with the beautiful colors of deep blue seas and golden sand, twinkling under the orange rays of the sun, propelling a multitude of dramatic waves in all variations to crash against the shores melodiously.
And it is that melodic ring that brings the surf-crazy out of their holes to the sugary playgrounds where they can pray that they don’t splash head first after coming face to face with the forceful right of the almighty "Dragon’s breath."
