While we can't quite confirm that a destination can go viral in the same way a meme can, we do have nothing but ecstatic thoughts for Kayak's list of trending destinations heading into 2016.
For the uninitiated, travel website Kayak scoured its own data and compiled a list of those destinations that are on the rise among travelers.

Use this information wisely: Get on out there and find out what all the buzz is about or run far away from what might be cities destined for an influx of people armed with selfie sticks.
In either case, we love to see the current landscape of travel, so here is what Kayak found to be the trendiest cities for travel this year.
No. 1 - Barcelona
No. 2 - Madrid
No. 3 - Kona
No. 4 - Tokyo
No. 5 - Bangkok
No. 6 - Amsterdam
No. 7 - Milan
No. 8 - Dublin
No. 9 - Manila
No. 10 - Athens
As stated, Kayak utilized its access to consumers' searches over the previous year and found what destinations are on the rise and have "seen the greatest increase in interest among travelers over the last year."
The big winner this year is, of course, Spain with its ornate architecture and rich culture. According to the website, Barcelona has seen a remarkable turn in potential travelers. The Spanish destination has seen a 27 percent increase in flight searches against the previous year's searches, according to Kayak.
If you are inclined, you will want to book about six months out, according to some of the compiled data.
Close behind is Spanish brethren Madrid, which nearly matched search interest with a rate of flight searches that were 24 percent higher than the previous year.

The rest of the list is peppered with locations from across the world that suit every manner of interest.
From the calming holiday one might consider in Kona, Hawaii, to that wonderfully chaotic trip to bustling Tokyo, it's clear that Kayak welcomes a diverse set of interests.
Hopefully, this particular list has you considering a new town to visit or finally has you pulling the trigger on a vacation that you have been putting off for far too long.
