Study: Think Baseball For Best Super Bowl Hotel Deals
Features & Advice Ryan Rudnansky January 09, 2014

If you're looking for the best bargains for Super Bowl hotel stays, you're better staying closer to the home of the Yankees than the home of the Jets and Giants.
That's the takeaway from travel site TripAdvisor's TripIndex study for Super Bowl XLVIII, which estimates the average expenses for travelers during Super Bowl weekend in the area surrounding MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
The study measures the average cost of a one-night hotel stay, public transit to and from the game, an order of chicken wings and two bottles of domestic beer in 10 popular nearby lodging spots.
Bronx, N.Y. is the best bargain at a total cost of $204.70, while the spot closest to the stadium, Secaucus, N.J., is the most expensive at $482.57 per day.
Here's the full results:
1. Bronx, N.Y., 15 miles from stadium, $169.38 average hotel cost, $16.50 for public transit, $8.82 for wings, $10 for two beers, $204.70 total.

Of the ten locales, the Bronx, Parsippany and Brooklyn were the least expensive options for the two-day stay, all estimated at less than $300 per day.
On the other hand, Secaucus (the closest spot to MetLife Stadium), Manhattan and North Bergan were the most expensive options, all estimated at more than $400 per day.
Not surprisingly, the study found that travelers can find better deals the farther away from the stadium that they stay. From zero to 10 miles away, the average cost was $405 per day. From 26 to 50 miles away, the average daily cost was $182.
"Despite the clock running down to the big game in February, TripAdvisor data shows there is still significant hotel availability in the New York City area for travelers looking to score rooms at reasonable rates," said Brooke Ferencsik, director of communications for TripAdvisor. "According to the TripAdvisor TripIndex, travelers willing to stay outside of 10 miles from the stadium can save almost 40 percent."
There is still time for football fans to reserve rooms in area hotels.
At the Bronx’s Howard Johnson Express Inn, the average rate is $132 per night. At Secaucus’ Meadowlands River Inn, the average rate is $359 per night. And at Manhattan’s Bryant Park Hotel, the average rate is $525 per night.
