Super Bowl Ticket Prices Are Going Up, Up, Up
Features & Advice Ryan Rudnansky January 16, 2014

The latest Super Bowl ticket stats from online marketplace StubHub highlight just how expensive this year’s Big Game is for spectators.
According to StubHub, the average ticket price for Super Bowl XLVIII in New Jersey this year has been $4,012, an increase of $1,487 from last year’s average. The median ticket price is $3,400, compared to last year’s median of $2,172.
Tickets have generally sold from $2,708 to $10,000. The least expensive ticket—in Upper End Zone 1—was sold to a buyer from the Bronx for $1,500 on Oct. 19. The most expensive ticket—in the Lower Sideline—was $10,000. The buyer from Brownsville, Texas, bought two of these tickets.
By comparison, while one ticket sold for nearly $11,000 at last year’s Super Bowl, one ticket also sold for $106. There was a much broader range that allowed for more affordable tickets.
Interestingly enough, 80 percent of the sales for last year’s Super Bowl came after the conference championship games.
Most buyers this year have been based in New York, New Jersey, Texas and California. Internationally, there were buyers from as far as Australia and the Yucatan.
But regardless of where you bought your tickets this year, chances are you spent a lot of money for the opportunity to watch some of the top football players on the planet battle it out at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.
One thing’s for sure: It’s going to have to be a heck of a football game to make up for those prices.
