Features & Advice Brian Major January 07, 2014

A majority of Americans will travel in 2014, taking more than two trips according to results of a survey from the U.S. Travel Insurance Association (USTia).
In all, 61 percent of Americans surveyed said they will travel in 2014, with an average of 2.4 vacation trips planned. Another 30 percent of those who said they planned to travel said they will take three or more trips in 2014.
The survey also found that respondents’ likelihood of traveling rose along with income and education levels. Nearly three-quarters (73 percent) of respondents earning $50,000 or more will take at least one vacation trip, while only 46 percent of those earning under $50,000 said they plan to travel.
In terms of education levels, 70 percent of respondents with college degrees said they will travel in 2014, compared to 56 percent for those without degrees.
Also, 70 percent of married respondents plan to take a trip in the next year, compared to 52 percent of unmarried individuals.
Domestic itineraries dominate among those with plans to travel in 2014, as 85 percent of respondents said they will vacation within the U.S. and Canada, while 15 percent plan to travel outside the continental U.S.
The USTia survey polled 1,000 randomly-selected participants. A vacation trip was defined as travel 100 miles or more from home.
