Inbound travel to the United States gives the world a unique understanding of what makes America great.
It’s also vital to the health of our economy.
Those are the opening statements in a new video entitled “America is Open for Business,” just released by the Visit U.S. Coalition.
The coalition, formed earlier this year, represents a broad cross-section of industries that have come together to address what it calls the troubling decline in international travelers to the U.S. and the resulting cost to the U.S. economy and jobs.
According to the Visit U.S. Coalition website, 7.4 million fewer visitors came to the US between 2015 and 2017, which translated into $32.2 billion in lost spending. In addition, 100,000 jobs were not created due to loss of market share.
The coalition’s aim is to partner with President Trump and Congress to increase travel spending by international visitors and achieve the administration’s goal of a three percent increase in GDP.
In fact, Trump is featured in the new video stating “America is open for business.”
The 40-second video also notes that the Visit U.S. Coalition is working with the White House and Congress to increase travel, create jobs and strengthen the U.S. economy.
The coalition states on its website that it endorses the following efforts:
— Embracing international travel to the U.S. as a national priority
— Expanding intelligence sharing and streamline the travel entry process
— Making America’s visa system more secure and accessible to international travelers
— Increasing security and efficiency in America’s travel screening systems at U.S ports of entry
The new video can be seen on the Visit U.S. website and on social media.
Brand USA, the organization charged with marketing this country to visitors from around the world. told TravelPulse in a recent interview that it remains confident in America's travel outlook.
Brand USA’s campaigns and marketing initiatives over the past four years have helped attract 4.3 million visitors to this country and those travelers have had a $29.5 billion economic impact.
Chris Thompson, president, and CEO of the Washington D.C.-based organization said during a January interview that what defines travel as an export is spending (how much people spend when they visit here) and in this regard, the United States remains the number one destination.
