The Green Leaders program is sponsored by several major organizations dedicated to environmental care: the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Energy Star; the U.S. Green Building Council; and the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP).
The criteria for selection of these awards include having at least seven green practices such as sheets and towel replacement upon guest request, recycling any kind of waste, using local and organic products, etc. The final score also takes into account comments from travelers who stayed in the hotels and have noted these practices.
Only nine Peruvian hotels have been awarded this recognition, and eight of them are part of the Libertador portfolio. Five of its hotels received recognition in the Platinum category, two in the Gold category and one in the Silver category.
