A dining concept that truly ups the ante on culinary adventures, Dinner in the Sky is set to broaden its horizons even further when it heads South of the Border in January. While the concept isn’t new, it is novel to Puerto Vallarta. “The experience truly is a celebration of gastronomic innovation, and we’re excited to be the first location on Mexico’s Pacific Coast,” says Luis Angarita, managing director of Casa Velas and Velas Vallarta.
In May 2006, a Belgian-based communications agency focusing on gourmet pleasures joined forces with an amusement park installation company to create a “flying dinner table.” Since then, Dinner in the Sky has crisscrossed the skies in in 50 countries that include Europe, Australia, Japan, India, Dubai, South Africa, Brazil, China, Canada and the U.S.
Its mother company, Events in the Sky, recognized that people want to enjoy extraordinary experiences that “one up” those of others. And since the sky is a constant fascination, elevated events become a natural. The company attributes its success to “two golden words guiding all activities: Exclusivity and Safety.”
All concepts are designed according to stringent German norm DIN 4112 specifications, with products built in Belgium under the control of the TUV that sets the standard for worldwide engineering, testing and inspection services.
“Launching” at the adults only Casa Velas from Jan. 28-Feb. 28, 2017, this exhilarating foodie experience will allow up to 22 patrons to graze, gawk and gab with fellow diners during a three course gourmet dinner presented on the trademarked crane-supported platform 150 feet in the air – all while soaking in a beautiful panorama of the resort’s golf course, lushly landscaped grounds, Sierra Madre Mountains and Banderas Bay.
Following a complimentary cocktail hour, Dinner in the Sky guests can nosh on fabulous fare created by such top chefs as Bruno Oteiza and Mikel Alonso. These culinary dynamos are disciples of Spanish super chef Juan Arzak and owners Mexico City’s Biko that is a regular on San Pellegrino’s list of the top 50 restaurants in the world. While their Dinner in the Sky menus are still being developed, diners can count on Spanish and Mexican modern fusion fare that has make Biko so popular.
“Velas Resorts have blazed a trail of being innovators with what we call our WOWs,” says Angarita. “These signature services, amenities and experiences add value and build our luxury brand — things like our VIP Baby Concierge and Billionaire Birthday Party for Teens at the Grand Velas Resorts, our handbag bar at Casa Velas and now Dinner in the Sky.”
The highfalutin experience can be reserved for $50 USD a seat by guests of Casa Velas or the nearby AAA Five Diamond Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, and $80 for guests of Velas Vallarta. Dining in the Sky discounts require a minimum three-night stay at these three Velas properties in Vallarta-Nayarit. Those staying at other area resorts can savor the flavor for $242 when reserving a seat onsite or $170 if pre-ordering, pending availability.
Seatings are available 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, or at 5 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on weekends.
