El Paseo Hotel Helping Travelers Break Language Barriers

Few things are more frustrating as a traveler then not being able to communicate with people in your host destination.
Miami’s El Paseo Hotel, however, has just announced the introduction of new technology amenity designed to address this very issue.
The boutique hotel has integrated a device known as “Emilia” into its offerings. A small, hand-held translating device, Emilia bridges the communication barrier between international guests and Miami locals.
Resembling a television remote control, Emilia fits into a pocket easily and is capable of translating 12 languages, among them Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Italian and German.
So how does it work exactly?
Users simply speak into the device and it repeats what was said in the desired language back to the user.
That the product is being introduced in Miami is particularly appropriate, given that the destination attracts a tremendous amount of international travelers year round.
The Miami Herald recently reported that the city's top international source markets are Brazil, Germany, Argentina, and Colombia.

“At El Paseo, 30 percent of our guests are international travelers, and by breaking down language barriers, we are able to develop a more personal connection, making our guests feel right at home and easier to exceed their expectations,” said Luis Soto, general manager of El Paseo Hotel.
The devices will be available to guests for a rental fee of $20 per day.
Located on Española Way, a Mediterranean style pedestrian-only street just a few blocks from one of Miami’s best shopping destinations, El Paseo is a Spanish Mediterranean-style boutique hotel featuring 71 guest rooms and suites. The property also includes one- and two-bedroom apartments with fully equipped kitchens.
