San Francisco is always a good idea. Whether it's a foodie trip, a wellness experience or a high-tech adventure you're craving, the city's got it all.
Stay for as little or as long as you want. The newly-renovated Stanford Court Hotel wants to help facilitate your vacation for you, whichever way you decide to spend it. The iconic 400-room hotel in Nob Hill feels cozy and not too big or overdone.
From the minute you walk in, you're greeted with art and comfort in every direction, from the Daylighted digital art installations (all pieces are by local artists and can be purchased through a wall-mounted tablet) to the tech library- guests can rent out Jambox speakers, iPads, GoPro cameras, MacBook Airs and Chromebook computers.
There's also a lobby music room, which is an actual library with a record player, hundreds of vinyl albums and paperback books for your reading and listening pleasure.
The hotel is focused on guests' balance of mind, body and soul with green amenities, electric vehicle charging stations and low-flow toilets in terms of sustainability. Then there are hypoallergenic pillows, earplugs and other sleep-enhancing amenities in the rooms so that you wake up rested and ready to conquer the day.
The 24-hour fitness center has views for days, Peloton training bikes and even a Kinima.fit virtual personal training program. Stanford Court is dog-friendly, too, so no need to leave your fur baby at home this trip.
As far as dining, Stanford Court has got you covered with healthy breakfast options-think made-to-order omelettes with goat cheese, greens and mushrooms.
Seven Stills Nob Hill, the third and newest outpost of the local craft brewer and distiller, is where you can order from a dinner menu that includes burgers, veggies and pizza to pair with your craft beer, whiskey and cocktails. It's open from 4 pm to midnight daily.
Thinking of exploring near the hotel? There are a few ways to stay busy and take full advantage of your surroundings.
First off, you can check out the Grace Cathedral. This massive and beautiful establishment is home to the first permanent labyrinth, as well as the first free-standing altar, in an American cathedral.
The church hosts a by-donation yoga class with live music on Tuesdays. Rumor has it more than 500 yogis show up weekly. Who wouldn't want to get their zen on surrounded by stained glass windows and super high ceilings?
Grace Cathedral is also known for its famed Beyonce Mass, free talks and forums by artists, writers and politicians open to the public and monthly sound meditation that's habitually sold out.
How about a massage next? Nob Hill Spa at the Huntington Hotel is right down the block. Arrive early and take advantage of the relaxation pool. Maybe even grab lunch and catch some rays on the outdoor deck before your treatment. No nap necessary since you'll come out rested and ready to hit the streets again.
Go for a walk, and work up an appetite. Maybe take a ride through town on SF's famous Cable Cars or a brisk stroll to Chinatown before chowing down on wood-fired Neapolitan-style pizzas at Del Popolo, also within walking distance of the hotel.
Dine-in on the weekends for the full experience (no takeout Fridays and Saturdays here) and enjoy some olives, roasted broccolini and an Italian Chianti with your pie. Always save room for coffee and dessert. Panna cotta or anything with chocolate plus a cappuccino should do the trick.
