Marriott Marquis Washington, D.C., Reveals Dining Options
Hotel & Resort Ryan Rudnansky February 19, 2014

Marriott Marquis Washington, D.C., will feature five Americana-inspired dining experiences when it debuts on May 1 as the District’s largest hotel.
Located in the Shaw neighborhood, the $520 million, 4-star hotel will introduce: Anthem, a casual dining restaurant; The Dignitary, an upscale lounge; High Velocity, a high-tech sports bar; a high-design Lobby Bar; and a specialty restaurant (to be announced).
Executive Chef Matthew Morrison will lead the culinary experience, coming from The Ritz-Carlton in Tysons Corner, VA. The fresh menus will be sourced from both local and Mid-Atlantic purveyors, as well as the hotel’s on-site rooftop garden.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Chef Morrison to lead the culinary team at Marriott Marquis Washington, D.C.,” General Manager Dan Nadeau said. “With our ideal location and connection to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Marriott Marquis’ diverse dining and nightlife options will cater to seasoned business travelers and discerning visitors, as well as our valued meeting planners. With three restaurants boasting street entrances, we anticipate becoming a favorite amongst local residents exploring the rejuvenated downtown area.”
Anthem will offer seasonal cuisine, while capturing the tradition of the original 1927 Marriott Hot Shoppes. The menu will include comfort food and Marriott Hotels’ signature healthy-eating options, including “good-for-you” kid’s menu options. Communal dining, as well as two private dining rooms, will be offered.
The Dignitary will recreate a speakeasy feel, complete with barside mixologists serving up handcrafted cocktails, from mule drinks to high-end whiskeys. Chef Morrison has also created a small plates menu. Guests can enjoy fresh juice cocktails and craft beers on the Dignitary’s outdoor patio.
High Velocity will feature 36 large flat-screen TVs, smartphone charging stations, Wi-Fi, tickertape screens with the latest sports scores, a central bar, communal dining, and floor-to-ceiling windows to enjoy street-level views of the bustling Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The bar will include 48 brews on tap, including several from D.C.-area breweries. On top of that, High Velocity will serve high-concept bar food for lunch and dinner, including samplers, beer-infused dishes, and international beer flights.
The Lobby Bar will feature a grand atrium lobby. Guests can enjoy a quick bite, coffee, tapas plates, and cocktails underneath a 56-foot sculpture called “The Birth of the American Flag,” while natural light streams down from the sky above. The sculpture will become the largest piece of art in any Marriott hotel, reaching the fifth floor. Two smaller sculptures, a pair of bronze and stainless steel walls at more than 50 feet in height, and water features will also be part of the bar’s design.
The hotel will include 105,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor function space, including the 30,000 square-foot Marquis Ballroom. That’s in addition to its 1,175 rooms (49 suites) and 6,500-square-foot high-tech concierge lounge.
