Iconic Belize resort Ramon’s Village Resort will have new measures in place to mitigate the risk of fire when the resort re-opens fully on December 20, according to resort officials quoted in local media reports. An August fire sparked by an electrical malfunction razed the resort and briefly knocked out electrical service to the community of San Pedro.
Nearly one-third of Ramon’s Village has been re-built with new thatched roof structures, replanted trees and greenery and the Mayan-themed landscaping for which the resort is known.
The resort also features permanent water pumping equipment and hydrants throughout the property.
In addition, “we have made provision for a 10-foot easement that will serve as beach access that will be available in the event of another fire within the neighborhood,” added Einer Gomez, the resort’s manager, in an interview with local media.
