When it comes to choosing a holiday destination, many vacationers base their stays on the type of experience different locales provide. Looking for late-night parties and lavish shows? Las Vegas, it is. Prefer rest and relaxation? A tropical beachside resort might sound more appealing. And there’s often the question of what to do with the kids? The good news is at Oasis Resorts in Cancun, travelers can have it all.
According to Enrique Klein, vice president of marketing, the idea of an “all-inclusive” stay at these resorts means more than just what’s included in the cost of a reservation. “We take pride in the entertainment and diverse experiences we offer our guests,” says Klein. “There truly is something for everyone who stays at our resorts.”
Of the eight all-inclusive Oasis hotels on the Yucatan Peninsula, the Grand Oasis Cancun is the place to beat.
Here, guests have a wide selection of activities, entertainment and international cuisine, as well as upscale hospitality, amenities and VIP access. Situated on the same property as the Oasis Cancun, reservations at the Grand Cancun include an in-suite minibar that’s restocked daily with water, soda and beer, plus room service (with a minimal service fee) and access to the property’s exclusive restaurants and bars.
What’s more, a stay at the Grand Cancun also allows guests to visit any of the other Oasis properties, such as the kid-friendly Grand Palm and Oasis Palm resorts and the adult-only, LGBT-friendly Oasis Sens, at no additional cost. That’s access to more than 61 bars located on four properties with different views of the Caribbean and 60 restaurants with exceptional dining choices.
Locals have even proven an interest in some of the upscale offerings by Spanish chef Rafael Zafra, such as the gourmet molecular menu at Oasis Sens’ Hacienda Benazuza and the Grand Cancun’s The White Box gastropub.
For a unique dining experience try eating in the dark at Black Hole, where servers also put on a black-light performance.
When it comes to entertaining visitors, the Grand Cancun sets itself apart from other resorts along the Caribbean coast with the implementation of its own entertainment production company.
“Our on-site entertainment team envisions, designs, crafts and creates all of the resort’s shows,” says Klein. “We have a team of solely-dedicated professional performers whose only purpose is to entertain our guests.”
The team of more than 120 professionals includes singers, dancers, musicians, comedians, magicians, mimes, roller blade performers, stilt walkers, and the like.
From the moment visitors arrive, a group of singers can be found welcoming them in the lobby. Some skits are less recognizable at first, such as the Groucho Marx-style comedy artists who follow and mimic guests as they move about the property. Performance artists can also be found frolicking along the half-mile stretch of beach during the day, and as the sun sets, a group of fire dancers put on a sizzling hot show to the beat of Native drums.
The one must-see show is the resort’s newest inception. El Origen is a Cirque du Soleil-esque production, created in conjunction with the Humanicorp dance troupe, that tells the story of the arrival of the first Spanish settlers in the Americas and their interactions with the Mayan people.
Staged in the open atrium lobby of the main building, the show has all of the trappings of big-number Vegas productions: glowing figures in grand costumes float high above the darkened space, a contortionist moves with effortless grace while balancing atop two plated canes, and a soothing song of ancient flutes, drums, rattles and other percussion instruments of Mexico’s history lure the audience in for more.
Guests can also enjoy a bit of Quintana Roo’s Spanish influence at a Flamenco show while sipping wine and tasting tapas at Sevilla or listen to live rock and roll at the Italian restaurant Dos Lunas.
As the night grows older, those looking for a little harmless mischief can head over to the Oasis Cancun side of the property and party into the early hours. Coyote Loco is an official replica of the bar in the “Coyote Ugly” film, in which bikini-clad women dance on tabletops above men whose reaction to the spectacle always seems to come with a hoot and a howl.
Another option that suggests a more risqué ambiance, albeit with an added touch of class, is the Kinky Night Club. Burlesque is the theme of choice here, and the shows are all done in good fun with exquisite taste.
Even with all of the Grand Cancun’s available activities, Klein assures that guests who are looking for a simpler, more relaxing experience can also find a place here.
“If they want to participate, that’s great. If not, that’s okay too,” says Klein. “We want our guests to feel that they’ve crafted their own vacation.”
Visitors can choose instead to take a yoga class or enjoy a spa treatment before heading poolside to read a favorite book. The best part is that since this grand resort boasts Cancun’s longest swimming pool, vivacious kids can stay at one end while peace-seeking adults are at the other and never the two need meet.
On the topic of kids, there are four weeks in March when spring breakers take over much of Cancun. With that said, during this annual event, it might behoove families to check in to one of the Palm resorts, which allow children 12 and under to stay for free in a room with two paying adults.
During this time of the year, couples and friends also have their choice of joining the sensory-stimulating Sens, which has a secluded topless pool, or skipping Cancun’s beach traffic altogether at the Grand Oasis Tulum and Oasis Tulum resorts.
Business-focused individuals can find their place in the sun, as well, at the Oasis Smart hotel, located downtown.
The bottom line, as Klein puts it, “Cancun is a perfect destination on a year-round basis, weather wise, ocean wise, and entertainment wise, and at Oasis Resorts anyone can find exactly what they’re looking for in a vacation.”
