Rosewood Hotels & Resorts will debut its fourth property in Mexico next year in the colonial city of Puebla within a complex of buildings encircling a walled courtyard whose centerpiece is a 300-year-old chapel.
Rosewood Puebla will boast 79 rooms and suites, a restaurant, spa and two bars, one of which will be set on the roof along with a swimming pool. The chapel will serve as a wedding venue.
The luxury property is in close proximity to the city’s beautifully restored Zocalo. Located 75 miles southeast of Mexico City, Puebla itself is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its stunning colonial architecture, ceramics and mole poblano, comprised of 30 ingredients, the most notable of which is chocolate.
“Rosewood Puebla will be a wonderful complement to our existing Mexican properties,” says Sonia Cheng, chief executive officer of Rosewood Hotel Group. “Puebla is a living canvas and offers rich cultural, culinary and historic traditions in which guests will be able to immerse themselves.”
Rosewood will manage the hotel for Plus Arrendamientos Inmobiliarios, S.A. de C.V., a real estate firm responsible for La Purificadora, set in a 19th-century factory and widely regarded as one of Puebla’s finest hotels.
DAS Concepts has been charged with the hotel’s design, which will put the spotlight on furnishing and artwork created by Mexican artists and craftsman. Talavera pottery, which is something else Puebla is known for, will be on display throughout the hotel.
Rosewood’s other properties in Mexico include Rosewood Mayakoba in Riviera Maya, Las Ventanas al Paraiso in Los Cabos and Rosewood San Miguel de Allende.
