This fall, Thompson Hotels will bring its boutique hotel concept to the Riviera Maya with the debut of Thompson Playa del Carmen.
The property, which will feature accommodations in the heart of Playa del Carmen as well an in an oceanfront Beach House, is Thompson’s second foray into Mexico. In June, the company unveiled The Cape, A Thompson Hotel in Los Cabos.
“Thompson Playa del Carmen will be the only hotel in Playa with both a central La Quinta Avenida downtown location as well as a beachfront retreat,” said the hotel’s General Manager, Julian Smaldoni.
The main hotel will feature 92 rooms incorporating mid-century Mexican and Caribbean design elements. The majority of guestrooms will feature terraces, and suites will be equipped with outdoor fire pits and hot tubs.
The main hotel will feature a 30,000-square-foot rooftop with infinity pool and cabanas. The rooftop will serve as the Mexican outpost for CATCH, a trendy New York City seafood restaurant.
It is set just blocks away from the Beach House, which is scheduled to open early next year. The Beach House, meanwhile will be equipped with 27 rooms and suites, all which will feature terraces, a pool, cabanas, restaurant and bar.
“Riviera Maya is a culturally and ecologically rich destination with an authentic Mexican charm,” said Niki Leondakis, CEO of Commune Hotels & Resorts, which operates Thompson Hotels. “Our mission for Thompson Playa del Carmen is to celebrate the vibrancy of the region, while introducing a completely new lifestyle experience for locals and visitors that seamlessly blends the urban downtown culture of Playa with a laid-back, Caribbean seaside escape.”
