The U.S. Coast Guard has launched a search for a man who is suspected to have fallen overboard on a cruise ship north of Puerto Rico early Monday.
The Miami Herald reported officials aboard the MSC Divina notified the Coast Guard after searching the entire ship and failing to locate 74-year-old Jean-Pierre Knorr, who was last seen by his wife around 3 a.m. Monday.
"MSC Divina officials notified the Coast Guard that they have searched the entire cruise ship and made callouts through the public announcement system with negative results," the Coast Guard revealed in a statement.
Knorr, a French citizen, was reportedly last seen on the couple's stateroom balcony.
The Coast Guard launched three aircraft, including a pair of helicopters, and one cutter to search for Knorr.
The ship was traveling in waters north of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico during a cruise from Miami to the Caribbean when the incident is believed to have occurred.
Knorr's disappearance comes less than two weeks after a 22-year-old passenger went overboard on Royal Caribbean's Independence of the Seas southeast of Key Largo. However, the cruise line stated that he did so intentionally.
