Man Throws Explosive Device in Shanghai Airport, Injures 4

On Sunday afternoon, a man threw an explosive device at the check-in counters at Pudong International Airport in Shanghai, injuring four passengers, CNN reported.
A Shanghai Police press statement obtained by CNN said, "According to the initial police investigation, a man took out a homemade explosive device in a beer bottle from a bag he was carrying and threw it in front of the check-in counters. After the beer bottle exploded, the man took out a dagger from his bag, slashed his own neck and collapsed on the floor."

The Shanghai Airport Authority, which runs the airport, told CNN that the attack occurred at about 2:20 p.m. Shanghai time.
The four wounded passengers are being treated at a hospital after receiving minor injuries from the explosion, CNN reported. The suspect is in critical condition.

"Police have taken control of the incident area,” the airport authority said in a statement to CNN. “Other flight operations at Pudong are not affected."
