Pittsburgh Sports-Themed Cruise Picks Up Stranded Migrants

During a Carnival Cruise Line Pittsburgh sports legends-themed voyage through the Gulf of Mexico Saturday, the ship and its crew were forced to rescue 16 migrants stuck on a makeshift boat.
According to The Associated Press, Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Sensation ship was hosting a themed event featuring Pittsburgh sports legends when the vessel’s crew came across a small makeshift boat with 15 men and one woman onboard.

Carnival spokeswoman Jennifer de la Cruz told The AP that the small vessel and the migrants were found 50 miles north of Cuba. After the group was brought safely onboard the Carnival Sensation, they were turned over to Mexican immigration officials when the ship made its next stop in Cozumel, Mexico.
The four-day cruise set out from port last Thursday, and will be returning to the United States on Monday. One of the legends on the sailing was Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison, who shared several pictures of the incident on Instagram:
