Ghost hunters of the world unite! This Halloween, spook seekers can download a dose of smartphone awesomeness.

Whether you want to find the perfect place to spelunk this ghoulish weekend or simply want a hint as to the ghastly places to avoid, these apps offer some help.

Now this is hardly an exhaustive list, just some of the smartphone goodies that make hunting for haunted locations a bit easier. So please toss out your favorite applications accordingly.

We also made sure to give a couple of suggestions for ghost hunting tools to utilize when you actually get to that haunted house or hotel.

Sadly, you are not as yet able to download a working proton pack.

Ghost Hunter by Dave Helmig:

Now we haven't yet taken this baby for a whirl, so we are eager to hear any reviews you might have for an app that "lists and maps over 3,000 haunted locations in all 50 states across the country."

GhostZone:

After accepting terms and conditions that stipulate some information may be, well, tenuous, I was off and running.

Here in Los Angeles, the app did offer a few locations, but neglected to highlight some of the more famously haunted destinations like downtown's Stay on Main (formerly the Cecil Hotel).

Haunted Places USA:

Those with an Android device have an answer to haunted locations with the above app, which is described as a guide to every level of hunter.

The app states: "Haunted Places was created for enthusiasts, amateurs, professionals, and the curious to explore and discover active haunted locations around the United States."

According to one comment, "This app is pretty good. Each state has a list of reported haunted places. You can also comment on them or add a place if it's not listed. I think it's a good app if you're looking for places to investigate around the United States."

Haunted Travels USA:

This was one of the more immersive applications for the season, offering a way to find paranormal groups, ghost tours and haunted inns.

Once in the app, you can tickle your paranormal fancy by state, which makes crafting a haunted itinerary extremely easy.

Haunted New York Walking Tour: (iOS and Google Play)

One of the country's oldest urban centers is home to myriad ghost adventures - at least that's what you might glean from this app that offers a "self-guided walking tour of haunted history in New York City."

It also offers offline maps so you aren't frightened by how much data you are using.

Paranormal Field Guide:

The downside here is the app hasn't been updated for quite some time. However, it still boasts 9,800 locations around the United Kingdom and Ireland.

And really, ghosts aren't in the habit of updating how they haunt the place.

Unofficial Ghost Hunters Guide:

Android users have something useful in this app that takes a look at various locations from the show "Ghost Hunters."

The app in fact boasts rather confidently: "This app is a MUST for 'Ghost Hunters' fans and just paranormal lovers in general as we map out the haunted locations visited by this TV show."

TV on Your Phone:

If you want to keep up to date on your favorite haunted programs, Travel Channel and SyFy have apps that offer episodes from "Ghost Adventures" and "Ghost Hunters" respectively.

Ghost Hunting Tools:

Now most of the tools on Android and iOS will warn that the apps are for entertainment purposes only.

So take that blip on your EMF detector with a grain of incredulity. But 'tis the season for make-believe, so download with glee.

Ghost Hunting Tools and Ghost EVP Radio are particularly well-received apps that will make your hunting a bit more enjoyable (Read: downright terrifying).

Now if your Halloween features a bit more traveling than the local soiree or trick-or-treating, you have the necessary tools to make this year an unforgettable one.
