FIT travel specialists, Avanti Destinations, has partnered with VisitFinland to launch a joint promotion and e-brochure that highlights travel to the Finnish capital of Helsinki and Finnish Lapland.
"In the past, many American independent travelers have skipped over the Nordic countries when they travel to Europe," said Paul Barry, Avanti's executive chairman. "But in the past few years, we have seen a high growth rate in bookings to the region.
"Finland is probably the least familiar European country to American travelers, and yet it is the most intriguing, situated between Russia and Scandinavia. It has so much to offer: cutting-edge design and architecture, culture, music, food, and outdoor adventures. Finns cherish their connection to nature, are devoted to the ritual of sauna, and most speak excellent English. We are very pleased to partner with VisitFinland in shining a spotlight on this wonderful nation and helping agents book more FIT clients there," Barry added.
The new 18-page e-brochure, "Footprints Across Finland," features five Footprints Across Finland, including berry-picking and bear-watching in the spring and summer months and an icy ride onboard an icebreaker.
Avanti has also launched five new destinations in Finland and expanded options in all others.
Avanti provides custom FIT journeys to travelers and custom group journeys for 15-100 passengers exclusively through travel agents.
The five new customizable itineraries include the 10-day Fantastic Finland journey that takes guests to Helsinki, Ruka or Kuusamo, Rovaniemi, and Kemi. Guests can choose to do a wilderness hike or bear-watching in Ruka-Kuusamo, go ice fishing and experience the sauna in Ruka, visit a Lapp family and reindeer farm as well as Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi. Travelers can also venture out into the ice-covered sea on the icebreaker Sampo and do a snowmobile safari in Kemi.
For those travelers who want a more in-depth experience, the Rovaniemi Regional Highlights is three-days and two nights in Finnish Lapland that includes a reindeer safari, a meeting with Santa Claus, hotels and private transfers. The journey can be booked in the winter or the summer.
FIT travelers can also get an in-depth perspective of Helsinki. The four-day Helsinki Regional Highlights gives guests the chance to explore the city on a private bike tour, and includes a private distillery experience with tasting and a Helsinki Card. Guests can also add optional activities such as a sauna experience, a sightseeing cruise, Helsinki Design tour, berry-picking by bike tour, tour of Fazer chocolate factory.
Seasonal journeys are also available. The Finland Summer Adventure is a five-day, four-night escape in Ruka or Kuusamo. It includes private roundtrip transfers, hiking tour in Oulanka National Park, choice of river rafting or berry-picking and baking, bear-watching experience.
The Finland Winter Adventure is also five days and includes private roundtrip transfers, Northern Lights tour by snowshoe or sled, snowmobile safari, choice of ice fishing or sauna experience, one Lappish dinner experience.
