WHY IT RATES: These unique trip offerings in Southern Africa allow for giving back while also exploring the region. -Mia Taylor, TravelPulse Senior Writer.
African Impact, rated the world's top volunteer organization earlier this year, has launched five new expeditions across Southern Africa that combine volunteering with adventure travel.
The tours offer clients the opportunity to volunteer on an African Impact program, before joining an organized itinerary that showcases the best of what the host destination has to offer.
"Our expeditions are designed to allow people to do some good in the world and still see, do and achieve as much as possible in a short travel period," said Andrew Procter, African Impact's managing director. "The backbone of these tours are our volunteer projects, most of which have been running for well over 10 years, so it is a completely unique and culturally immersive way to explore Southern Africa."
The tours, which utilize the company's extensive network across the continent, range in length from two weeks to three months, and are inclusive of all accommodation, transport, meals, volunteering resources, and a number of experiences along the way.
Example itineraries include the two-week expedition through Nairobi, Limuru and Diani Beach, as well as the 3-month expedition that visits African Impact's projects throughout South Africa, Mozambique, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Botswana.
"We wanted to create a variety of expeditions," Andrew Procter added, "So that they would be perfect for not only a gap year student or someone taking a break from their career, but for someone simply looking for a jam-packed two-week holiday."
