Facebook Study Shows Most Checked-In Spots in World

Facebook released a fascinating study on Monday, breaking down users' posts in 2013.
The website not only listed the destinations around the world with the most check-ins, it also listed the top life events and most popular topics.
For all of you travelers out there, the check-ins list is a proverbial gold mine, pointing out some of the most popular places on the planet.
So, let's take a look at the list (all lists via Facebook)…
Top Check-Ins Around The World (excluding transportation hubs)
Argentina: Puerto Madero, Buenos Aires
Australia: Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), East Melbourne, Victoria
Brazil: Parque Ibirapuera, São Paulo
Canada: Rogers Arena, Vancouver, British Columbia
Egypt: Sharm el-Sheikh, South Sinai Governorate, Egypt
France: Disneyland Paris, Marne La Vallée

As you can see, it's not exactly a surprise that a lot of Disney venues were listed. The most popular Facebook check-in of 2013 in the United States was Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif. Epcot at Walt Disney World in Florida came in third place, right behind Times Square in New York City.
Disneyland was also the top check-in in France (Disneyland Paris), Japan (Tokyo Disneyland) and Hong Kong (Hong Kong Disneyland).
For you Northern Lights explorers this year, you may want to check out Blue Lagoon, located in Northern Lights hot spot Reykjavik, Iceland. It was the top check-in in Iceland.
As far as sports venues go, Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles was the No. 1 check-in in the United States. And, just to add more drama to the rivalry, AT&T Park in San Francisco came in second in the category.
Rangers Ballpark in Arlington and Fenway Park in Boston received the third and fourth-most check-ins, respectively. In Canada, Rogers Arena—home of the Vancouver Canucks—was the top check-in of 2013.
The most popular topics/terms on Facebook were (in order): Pope Francis, Election, Royal Baby, Typhoon, Margaret Thatcher, Harlem Shake, Miley Cyrus, Boston Marathon, Tour de France and Nelson Mandela.
The top five most popular topics in the U.S. were (in order): Super Bowl (of course), Government Shutdown, Boston Marathon, Syria Crisis and Harlem Shake.
Demonstrating how important travel is to the world, traveling and moving were ranked second and third, respectively, in life event check-ins.
