Is This the Future of Airport Security?

TSA is taking a giant leap into the future with new technology that links your ID and your boarding pass.
If you hate lugging around that burdensome piece of paper or dread whipping out your phone and waiting the inevitable 10 minutes it takes for the scanner to read your electronic boarding pass (it takes forever, am I right?), then you will love what TSA is trying out at several airports around the country.
According to a report on KXAN, the TSA has begun testing new technology for Pre-Check passengers that matches the name on a passenger’s ID to TSA’s Secure Flight vetting system, eliminating the need for passengers to take out their boarding pass before going through security.
If you are pre-screened to use TSA Pre-Check, you will be able to whiz through the line even faster.
All passengers need to do is present their ID, which is scanned by a TSA agent. The new technology will then verify the authenticity of your identification before your bags are inspected.

With the line moving much faster and ID checks being less cumbersome, passengers can stow their boarding pass after they check in for their flight and only retrieve it for boarding.
This new program will detect and reduce the number of people who use fraudulent identification to board a plane. With safety and speedier service becoming more attainable at airports, it should be a major win for TSA.
While the technology is only available at a few airports around the country—including Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Dulles International airport, O’Hare International Airport and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport—TSA says that it will be expanding to even more this August. Keep an eye out in a Pre-Check line near you.
