The Cromwell Becomes First Vegas Hotel to Offer Mobile Room Access to Guests

Guests can now check in and open their room door with their smartphone at The Cromwell, the only standalone boutique hotel on the Las Vegas Strip.
Kaba, a major provider of access control solutions for the hotel industry, announced the installment of the mobile access system on Monday, making The Cromwell the first Vegas hotel to feature the trending technology.
"Kaba's mobile access system is based on the cloud service set up by security firm Legic Identsystems, a subsidiary of Kaba. With this ground-breaking Kaba hotel locking system, which opens hotel locks in less than a second, guests can enjoy a completely new and intuitive experience that very much suits The Cromwell's unique 'modern meets vintage' style," said Alastair Cush, head of Kaba Lodging's global business development, via a press release.
According to VegasNews.com, upon reserving a room, Cromwell guests will receive a link to The Cromwell app and an access code on their iOS mobile device. Guests simply download the app, enter their ID number and place their smartphone next to the lock and their door will open. On top of that, the mobile key—or eKey—can also be used to activate the hotel elevator to guestrooms.
Kaba also prides itself in its mobile access system being secure. According to Kaba, mobile access authorizations are encrypted in the Kaba system using the Legic ID Connect cloud solution, then transferred to the guest. They can only be decrypted within the hotel lock of the room, ensuring safe and convenient access.
The system comes in both Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Near Field Communications (NFC) technologies, giving hoteliers flexibility to choose what fits their needs.
This is just the start of Caesars Entertainment’s move toward a mobile-friendly entry for guests. According to the VegasNews.com report, Caesars plans on integrating the Kaba technology with its overarching “play by TR” app. Soon, guests will be able to communicate with hotel staff through their smartphone with the technology, asking for anything from in-room dining to valet service to housekeeping.
Caesars is gearing up to deploy a full-scale launch of self check-in that will combine online and mobile means with kiosks for a fluid check-in and checkout experience.
Caesars Entertainment is just the latest major hospitality company to rollout mobile check-in and room entry. Global companies such as Starwood Hotels and Resorts and Hilton Worldwide have already begun implementing the technology, and more are on their way.
