Vacation Packages David Cogswell February 24, 2013
Western River Expeditions, a river rapids operator, is offering Grand Canyon rafting trips that travel over 60 major rapids covering a 187-mile run in six or seven days. The package includes hikes into narrow side canyons, tributaries of the Grand Canyon; camp meals prepared by accomplished chefs using fresh produce daily and prime cuts of meat and fish; guides who reveal the cultural and natural history of the region, including Native American rock art and ruins as well as its astronomical views;
The trips use a high-capacity J-Rig raft with forward-facing seats and enough room to walk around. Guests can connect with the tour in Las Vegas or Marble Canyon, Arizona, where they can catch a short flight or bus trip to the river.
Per person rates begin at $2,585. A three- or four-day trip covering 100 river miles is available from $1,240 per person. The high season begins in April, with the coming of flowers, cooler temperatures and thunderous waterfalls. The season continues through mid-September. Western River Expeditions is an adventure travel company headquartered in Salt Lake City, with operations and offices in Moab, Utah and Fredonia, Arizona.
