Big Boost in Cruise Ship Arrivals in Acapulco

A significant increase in cruise ship traffic in Acapulco recently is evidence of the city’s growing popularity as a beach resort destination. There has been a huge upswing in cruise ship presence in town this year.
The city expects to have welcomed 32 ships in 2017 by year’s end. That marks a 78 percent increase from the 18 ship arrivals seen in 2016.
There are other signs of positive growth in cruise activity for the area. Starting in the winter of 2018, Acapulco will also serve as the port of origin for the Magellan cruise of Cruise and Maritime Voyages. This voyage—which can accommodate 1,400 passengers—features a route that includes Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Manzanillo, Puerto Vallarta, and Cabo San Lucas.
It’s not surprising that cruise lines and the passengers they serve would have a strong interest in Acapulco. The city offers much that appeals to international visitors. The beaches are world-renowned, and the surrounding mountains and other natural beauty add to the region’s allure. Visitors are greeted by breathtaking views and panoramic ocean vistas.

In addition, the people are friendly and warm, so new arrivals feel welcome immediately. The town boasts plenty of attractions and entertainment options. Boredom is never an issue!
This positive trend is likely to continue, as the city has been making a concentrated effort to attract more ships—an initiative buoyed by the support of international cruise lines. Earlier this year, a team spearheaded by the Acapulco Tourism Board met with the major shipping firms to discuss ways in which the groups could work together to better serve travelers and promote the advantages of the area.
The Port of Acapulco is being supported by the Center for Tourist Attention and Protection (CAPTA) to highlight the many great features of the city, while also helping to alleviate any concerns about potential safety issues.
