Meet Helmut Huber, Seabourn Ovation’s Hotel Director

The Seabourn Ovation sets sail this May.
Helmut Huber, a native of Innsbruck, Austria, will be the new hotel director. He began his career in the cruise industry as a waiter back in 1992.
After working his way up to the management level, Huber returned to university to earn multiple degrees. He was hired by Seabourn in 2015 as Hotel Director.
The gold Travvy winning cruise line recently had a Q&A with Huber to give guests a chance to learn more about one of their employees.
What is your favorite part about your job?
Meeting people from different countries and different cultures.
What are you most looking forward to about Seabourn Ovation?
It is the newest ship in our fleet and I’m excited to help with building a new team that will provide the best experience for our guests.
What is your favorite port of call and why?
The sail-in to Kotor, Montenegro is my favorite because of the incredible views and scenery as we near closer to port.
What is your favorite hidden gem that you like to visit?
I enjoy walking along the Sydney Harbour Bridge and for some adventure, I like to scuba drive in Galapagos.
What inspired you to become hotel director on a cruise ship?
The opportunity to meet new people and because I love to travel.
What is a typical day for a hotel director?
It’s always very busy from early morning before many guests wake up until late in the evening and you always have to be prepared for unexpected tasks and be willing to adapt accordingly.
What do you like to do when you’re on vacation?
I enjoy scuba diving, mountain biking and traveling to new places.
Do you have a Seabourn Moment to share? Either one that you were part of or one that you received yourself?
One of my favorite Seabourn Moments was Caviar in the Desert and a tour of Petra. The scenery in the desert is unique and unlike many places I’ve traveled. The tour of Petra was also unforgettable for its rich culture and history.
Tell us about the most rewarding aspect of your job as hotel director.
I love being part of a motivated team and ensuring that guests sailing with Seabourn have a great time.
