Must-Visit Destinations for Winter

Even if you are an avid skier or snowboarder, and love the way the snow looks when it blankets the treetops, there's no denying that winter isn't the most appealing time of the year in the northern hemisphere. You may love the activities that the winter can provide, but everyone likes to see the sun and sand at least once during the cold months.
Here are some top holiday spots that should be on your winter destination list!
Thailand
The Land Of Smiles has long been a popular spot for North Americans, Europeans and everyone in between. This is a top vacation country, and for good reason. Ancient Buddhist temples and ornate palaces dot the landscape. Pristine, white sand beaches and clear seas are perfect for swimming. Thai food is one of the most delicious cuisines in the world, with something for everyone to enjoy. The local people here are gentle and kind and will help you out in any way they can. On top of the architecture, beaches, food and people, this country is very easy to travel around. Buses run like clockwork, while flights and taxis are very affordable.
Mexico
This southern country is easily accessible to North Americans looking to escape the chilly winters. Within 5 to 6 hours, you could find yourself gazing out at the deep blue Pacific Ocean, or the turquoise Caribbean Sea. The food in Mexico is fantastic and very diverse, and the people are incredibly hospitable. Many people assume they need to travel here on an all-inclusive vacation, but independent travel is definitely possible. The culture is prominent, the activities are endless and the cost of travel here is very affordable.
Spain
Although the winter months in Spain aren't the warmest times of the year, this is still a very pleasant season to visit. The summer can be quite hot here, while the Mediterranean coast becomes packed with tourists. It can be more comfortable to travel to the south of Spain during the autumn/winter months. You can rent a car and explore the rocky coastline, visit churches and cathedrals and explore cobblestone alleyways. The Mediterranean Sea is lovely, Spanish food is delicious, and the wine is plentiful!
Hawaii
This American State bobs out in the northern Pacific Ocean and is composed of eight main islands. The topography here is incredible with jagged cliffs, towering volcanoes, rolling mountains and idyllic beaches. Hawaii may be a part of the USA, but many Asian and Polynesian traditions remain. Experiencing an authentic Luau (traditional Hawaiian feast) complete with hula dancing is a must.
There are also many activities you can do here to keep yourself busy. Surfing, snorkeling, diving and swimming are all popular watersports, while inland you can go on numerous hikes and explore waterfalls.
The Caribbean
This may be a region rather than just a single destination, but there are so many islands to choose from that we can't narrow it down to just one! The water in this part of the world is incredibly clear and calm, making it the perfect place for swimming. Caribbean culture is lively and colorful and you won't want to miss the upbeat steel pan, soca and calypso music.
Many of the islands here are mountainous and covered with lush jungle just waiting to be explored. The Caribbean is another great part of the world for scuba diving, snorkeling and swimming...but it's also a very popular place for sailing! Even if you can only head out on a day trip, make sure to hit the water in a sailboat or catamaran, you won't regret it.
