Road Trip Ideas to Beat the Winter Blues

Next week officially marks the start of winter. It’s a sad time of year for many road trippers. With the winter storm season in full swing, it’s hard for us to get out and explore this beautiful country. Not to worry; there’s still some great road trip adventures to be had this time of year.
The Southern Pacific road trip route:
This is a popular road trip route for many seasoned road trippers during the winter months. With year-round sunshine in parts of this route, and warmer weather, it’s no surprise that people flock south during the winter months.
The original South Pacific road trip route goes from San Diego to Amarillo, TX and straight across to Savannah, GA. I’ve personal road tripped most of this route before, and loved it.
Out of personal preference, I’ve modified the original Southern Pacific road trip route to include some of my favourite stops. Here are some stops to include on your southern road trip:
Disneyland: This is a great time of year to explore the most magical place on earth. The lineups are shorter, and you still get great California sunshine, just not as hot as summer months.
Arizona: this is easily my favorite state to explore. There’s so much to see and do here. Make sure to include a stop at the Grand Canyon while out exploring, it’s a must see attraction at least once in your life.
Road trip tip: Contrary to popular belief, the Grand Canyon actually gets some snow during the winter months. Check the weather conditions before venturing to the Grand Canyon.
Amarillo, TX or San Antonio: it’s hard to choose which is a better route through Texas. We really enjoyed our stop at the Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, but San Antonio is foodie heaven and is rich in history.
New Orleans: you can’t travel through the south without a stop in New Orleans. We spent a few days in New Orleans exploring, and loved it there. The French market was a great place to explore. Make sure to try some alligator meat!
Florida: this is another great stop to help beat the winter blues. I’ve spent some time in Englewood, on the southwest part of Florida. Great place to wait out the winter months. You also can’t beat the Miami lifestyle. Even if you only spend a few days in Miami, it’s a place you should experience at least once. You can also go a little more touristy on your road trip and head down to Key West. Beautiful place! It might also help you forget how much snow you’re getting back home.
