Luxury travel in 2015 is certainly looking up. New destinations, long off the high-end travel radar, have upped their game opening their doors to the latest generation of travelers seeking unique adventures. Meanwhile, old much-loved gems have been polished up and redeveloped to renew interest and intrigue return visitors.
From South American destinations to South East Asian and Europe, I look at some of the top travel picks.
Argentina
This country is a rich travel destination with an eternal appeal to romantics and sophisticated adventurers. Renowned for their fearless spirit, Argentines are not cowered by economic tribulations as they live life to its fullest. Currently the blue dollar exchange means that luxury is more affordable for overseas visitors.
Outside the cosmopolitan Buenos Aires, there is much to be discovered. The characterful colonial city of Salta in the country's northwest has always had its fans and offers some top-notch accommodation. The province has a dramatic range of natural environments and in recent years has made a commitment to wide ranging eco tourism development. High altitude wineries and luxury estancias make this a fabulous destination.
Nicaragua
Nicaragua is the new Central American destination which has already captured the imagination of early adopters and is set to take off this year. The increased stability of the region is leading to the concerted development of infrastructure and tourist amenities.
The country has more than 5 million acres of protected parks and the landscapes are on an epic scale of virgin rainforests, volcanic mountains and lakes. Development along the Emerald Coast is opening up these untouched and beautiful Pacific beaches to luxury loving visitors who want to explore this fascinating culture.
The Bahamas
These pearl-like islands have always been top of the winter vacation getaway destinations. Famous for the thousands of beautiful islands and cayes providing superb diving and sailing, it has always offered a wide selection of resort choices.
Now for those of you who enjoy a resort vacation with all the extras, the long awaited Baha Mar is due to open this Spring/ Summer. One of the biggest resort developments globally, it promises to deliver with four top-flight hotels, an 18 hole Jack Nicholas golf course and entertainment complexes. It might be a case of move over Barbados, as this revamped island becomes the Caribbean luxury destination of choice.
Myanmar
Myanmar F.K.A Burma is one of the last of South East Asia's untouched gems. Its political history and conscious decision to discourage tourism has meant it is the sleeping beauty of the region. In recent years there has been a thawing towards visitors and adventurous travelers have been amply rewarded by this Land of Golden Pagodas.
The beauty of the landscapes and the friendliness of a people new to tourism have outweighed some of the challenges with infrastructure. Capturing the high-end market's imagination are the new luxury river cruises down the Irrawaddy River through dense jungle and river side communities, calling in at the old colonial capital of Yangon and the countries cultural centre of Mandalay.
Milan
This northern powerhouse frequently loses out to the antique splendours of Rome and Florence, visitors having to dig deep to find its historical riches but 2015 is Milan's year. It is hosting the World Fair from the beginning of May until the end of October. The theme is a green one — Feeding the Planet and Energy for Life. The discussion promises to be lively and the food and wine spectacular so early bookings to this event would be advised.
2015 is not the year to sit at home and cool your heels. Quite the contrary, there is so much novelty and adventure on offer it is hard to resist getting online immediately to seek out the best these spectacular destinations have to offer.
