The Recommended Route Through Xcaret Park for Animal Lovers

There are more than 190 species at Xcaret Park and only so many hours in the day to see them.
Thankfully, Xcaret has detailed its suggested route for anyone who loves seeing animals.
1. Anselmo and Tequila
If you’re lucky, you might be able to pet Anselmo the donkey and Tequlia the zebu, but either way they are adorable creatures and a great place to start as they’re near the Main Plaza.
2. Sheep in the Mayan Village
After the Main Square, you’ll want to stop through the Mayan Village and check out the sheep and the Wool Workshop.
3. The Aviary
With over 1,500 birds, the Aviary is a great spot to slow down and soak in all the beautiful creatures around you. Plus, it’s a tremendous walk through gazebos and bridges surrounded by rivers and waterfalls.
4. Butterfly Pavilion
After some peaceful bird watching, the next stop at Butterfly Pavilion “ has an area of 37,673 ft2 and 15 ft high, which makes it one of the largest in the world,” per the Xcaret blogger.
5. Pumas and Jaguars
Known as the “darlings of Xcaret,” the pair of pumas and pair of jaguars sure are a sight to see on their own small islands.

6. The Bat Cave
No Batman fans, it’s not that Bat Cave. But this dark cave is home to hundreds of real bats. Do you dare enter as you walk past it on the beach?
7. The Manatee Lagoon
You can either watch the Manatees above ground by walking along bridges and unique viewpoints, or you can see them underwater at the Manatee Underground River.
8. The Macaws
Around noon on Monday through Friday, the macaws take flight and you can actually participate by aiding the staff and having the macaw release from your hand.
9. Sea Turtles
A popular spot for guests at Xcaret Park, the Sea Turtle Lagoon holds adult sea turtles. If you want to see the baby sea turtles, you’ll need to head toward the smaller pond near the aquarium.
10. Crocodiles
Another prevalent area, guests hope to be lucky enough to see crocodiles up close sunbathing near the Sea Turtle Lagoon.
11. Coral Reef Aquarium
This is a must see in your visit to Xcaret Park. Per the Xcaret blogger, here you will “observe different species of marine ecosystems arranged according to their depth: mangrove, lagoon reef, reef crest, shallow reef and deep reef.”
12. Sharks and Rays
Next up after the aquarium, you can see sharks and stingrays, or you can step out of your comfort zone and really get close with the Swim with Sharks and Stingrays Encounter.
13. On the Road
The next adventures is seeing many great species as you travel toward Paradise River. Along the way you can spot spider monkeys, raccoons, deer, ducklings, flamingos and a tapir.
14. Horses
If you missed the Horse Show during the day, you can check out the majestic creatures next to the Chapel of Guadalupe or behind the restaurant La Cocina.
