We all like to live it up a bit when we travel. That is part of the reason we book luxury accommodations as part of our vacation right? Of course we do, but in the long run, we could go broke if we kept up that sort of spending spree on a month-long vacation to the Caribbean. Wouldn't it be great if there was a way to spend months away in your favorite exotic destination yet pay absolutely nothing for your room?
Think of all the extra activities you would be able to pursue. Think of all the extra things you could buy and sites you could see if you could get rid of that pesky daily room charge. Well as it turns out, you can. House sitting is a unique way to travel the world and experience all that your exotic destination has to offer. The tradeoff? You get to stay absolutely free. Homeowners are willing to let you occupy their house while they are away for security and upkeep. As a result, you get use their home free of charge.
This is quite a welcome change if you are a seasoned traveler. The reality is most of us who travel often stay in mid-level accommodations. This way we can stretch our travel budget and not go broke spending thousands on resorts that have to pay for spa treatments, fancy restaurants, and many staff.
The trade is a fair one, as the cheaper hotel bill allows us to stay in our travel destination longer, but the scenery is always quite familiar. Typically the beds are not the best but not the worst, every room has the same coffee maker and the thread counts on the sheets are somewhat less than desirable. Not to mention the fact that everything in the room is branded from the pen and notepad on the side table, to the soap and shampoo bottles in the bathroom.
House sitting however, gives us much more personal accommodations.
Also, keep in mind that there are some absolutely fantastic places that you could potentially stay in for free. There are million dollar penthouses in Manhattan, castles in France, and of course dream homes in Malibu that sit right on the beach. House sitting brings a world of luxury to those of us who otherwise would not be able to experience such luxury when we travel. It is changing the travel landscape and our travel experience as a whole.
There are many places to house and some of the most spectacular locations. We have found that gorgeous beach house in Florida, that cute little jungle bungalow rife with wildlife, and a Caribbean home right on the beach. These are just a few examples of some of our great experiences. Any of those locations I mentioned above would cost you a pretty penny if you had to pay for it. Yet, house sitting offers you that same luxury for free.
Again, to give you an idea of the luxury involved, here are some more exotic locations where people have their home up for grabs. Want to go to Koh Samui and stay for free? Yep, we have house sat there. Maybe you would like to do what we did and spent seven weeks in the Caribbean at no charge. Perhaps Maui, Mykonos, and Mauritius are on your agenda. Usually these would run fairly expensive, but when you house sit, that lodging bill goes away. Talk about freeing up some cash!
Also, consider this; there are many other perks to house sitting as well. Remember that hotel bed we talked about at the beginning? Well, when you house sit the beds tend to be much more luxurious. We have never had a bad experience with one to date. Also, your house may include a gourmet kitchen that will allow you to cook like a five star executive chef. Furthermore, my husband always loves it when we walk into a property and there is a massive TV calling his name! Stainless appliances, surround sound, hot tubs, private pools, all of these and more our first that you typically don't find at normal hotels when you travel. Yet, when you house sit, these make for nice perks.
Sometimes, use of the house will also come with an automobile or two. We have had the privilege of driving around in some pretty fancy cars! Now, this may not be the case with every house sitting assignment, however, when it pops up along the way it is always a welcome surprise. This saves you even more money since you do not have to take public transportation everywhere you want to go.
Not every assignment will be in the lap of luxury, yet you will still have conversations that are more personal and desirable than you would ask your average run-of-the-mill hotel. The individual attention and use of your own space gives you a more luxurious feel, and of course the homes always have unique character!
