It's wonderful, weird and whimsical. It's Austin, and it's a great place to find yourself if you are forced to leave the house for a few days for business.

And with that, we enter into another edition of Business Casual, and we are staying relatively warm after leaving the sun and golfing weather of Scottsdale.

This week we are examining what you might accomplish with limited time in a city like Austin, a destination that is teeming with brilliance and entertainment.

It's not exactly simple, but we whittled down some experiences to just a few. Hopefully this highlights the very things you can do even if you are in town with an itinerary that is a bit heavy on the business meetings.

Food

Franklin Barbecue:

Yes, we are starting off an article on timesaving experiences with a restaurant renowned for its lines.

However, this is the proverbial Mecca of barbecue, so perhaps consider swinging by just before it closes at 3 p.m. to pay for some scraps just to say you went. That's what one travel writer suggests.

Juan In A Million:

If you can leave the area around the convention center for a spell, you will not be disappointed by the renowned food they have at Juan In A Million, namely the breakfast tacos.

MAX's Wine Dive:

For our purposes, we are trying to stay near the downtown financial district. Thankfully, there is plenty to devour as that is concerned.

For a place like this, which serves great fried fare, we hope you brought your appetite and ditched your calorie counter at home.

Fun

If you have a moment to simply stroll around the city, Austin is as good a town as any to take in some unforgettable sights.

Become a Bat Lover:

If you can stomach the sight of millions of bats then you will be highly impressed by one of the city's most treasured spectacles.

Graffiti Art Walk:

Stretching the legs a considerable amount will find you on the other side of North Lamar at Baylor Street.

This is where locals and tourists come to bask in the creativity of so many gifted graffiti artists.

Music

If you are in Austin, chances are great that you are itching to experience some great live music.

Well, there are plenty of places to carouse and enjoy along 6th Street, but here are just a couple in other parts of the city to get you started.

ACL Live at The Moody Theater:

If you want to see great acts in an amazing setting than the ACL Live is right up your alley with ongoing tapings of the "Austin City Limits" series on PBS.

Elephant Room:

Again, there are myriad choices when it comes to live music in the area.

However, after a hard day it might be nice to relax in the cozy confines of basement jazz.

And that it really just the start, because it's now up to you to sample one or a few of things Austin has to offer. Just because you are in town on business doesn't mean you have to waste the opportunity.
