Enterprise Rent-a-Car's holdings in Ireland are set to grow now that the company's Irish division has acquired Dooley Car Rentals, the car rental division of the Limerick-based Dan Dooley Group for an undisclosed sum.
The deal, which went through on March 31, will see Enterprise Rent-a-Car Ireland add more than 1,400 vehicles, as well as scores of international customers and contracts.
"I've always admired the Dooley brand, which, like Enterprise, has a culture that's built upon excellent customer service. Both companies are family owned, entrepreneurial and customer centric. We are both proud of our history in Ireland. Dooley Car Rentals has been serving customers for more than 50 years, while Enterprise, which began in the United States 60 years ago, celebrates its 20th anniversary in Ireland this year," said George O'Connor, managing director, Enterprise Rent-A-Car Ireland, said in a recent press release.
"We have made significant investment in the Dooley Car Rental business and brand, and the sale of the business to Enterprise Rent-A-Car will ensure that the investment continues in the future so as to grow the business," said Pat Dooley, CEO, Dooley Group, in the release. "Enterprise's ability to invest in growing the new business will also present opportunities for Dooley employees within a global corporation."

The acquisition was a good fit for both Enterprise and the Dan Dooley Group, as each is a family-owned business with a sterling reputation in their respective areas. Dooley Car Rentals offers 19 car rental locations throughout Ireland, including locations in both northern and southern Ireland, and desks in each of the major airports' arrivals terminals.
Dooley Car Rentals, which has approximately 50 employees, will continue to be led as an independent business by Gerry McDermott, operations director/general manager of Dooley Car Rentals. Pat Dooley will stay on in an advisory capacity. The sale will not affect other divisions within the Dan Dooley Group, such as its Ford dealerships in Tipperary and County Limerick. Dan Dooley Group also operates Dooley Vacations, an inbound tour operator focused primarily on the United States.
With the acquisition, Dooley Car Rentals is joining the world's largest car rental company, Enterprise Holdings Inc., which together with its subsidiaries and independent franchises operates the Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car brands in more than 85 countries globally. Enterprise Rent-a-Car has locations in more than 7,200 locations in more than 30 countries and offers car, truck and motorcycle rentals in addition to car sharing and sales.
