On Monday, Celebrity Cruises revealed details about its upcoming ship, the Celebrity Edge, including expanded staterooms, a Magic Carpet platform and innovative suites.
The Celebrity Edge is being promoted as the first cruise ship to be completely designed in 3-D by the best architects and designers in the business and is targeted toward discerning global travelers.
The architectural team used by Celebrity Cruises consisted of interior designer Kelly Hoppen MBE, architect Tom Wright, design ambassador Nate Berkus and many more of the brightest minds in ship design.
"Celebrity Edge is one of the most exciting, innovative and transformational ships I have ever been involved with," said Royal Caribbean Cruises CEO Richard D. Fain. "The new features and refined design will establish a new baseline for ships from here on out."
"Our guests don't want to just skim the world like a magazine - they want to feel a human connection with it.", said Celebrity Cruises CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo. "Every element of Celebrity Edge is meant to make that connection intense and unforgettable. Our new class of ship will allow guests to experience their journeys with the uniqueness and sophistication that marks the rest of their lives."

On the Celebrity Edge, designers have revolutionized the traditional staterooms. With the addition of new and innovative technology, passengers will be able to control the lighting, shades, temperature and service in their cabin. The new design also adds 23 percent more square footage and 10 percent larger bathrooms than Celebrity's Solstice Class.
The new ship will add a private utopia called The Retreat, which will boast a private pool and lounge. In addition, the vessel will have a built-in Rooftop Garden, plus an entertainment and dining venue dubbed The Magic Carpet, which will help passengers scale the 15-deck ship by stopping at four levels to offer a distinctive experience at each one.
The Celebrity Edge will also offer two new suite categories: Iconic Suites and Edge Villas, with the former being two bedrooms and two bathrooms plus a 700-square-foot veranda, and the latter offering private plunge pools.
When the new Celebrity Cruises ship debuts in 2018, it will homeport in Fort Lauderdale and make its first sailing December 16, 2018.
