Travelers have spoken, and TripAdvisor has analyzed the results. London is the top destination in the world based on an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for hotels, restaurants and attractions in destinations worldwide. The results were gathered over a one-year period.

“The Travelers’ Choice Destination awards recognize the world’s most beloved travel spots, based on feedback and booking interest from the TripAdvisor community,” said Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer for TripAdvisor. “For those planning a summer vacation, now is a great time to plan a trip to one of these popular destinations where hotels are bookable on TripAdvisor for an average of $200 per night from June through August.”

London was at the top of the list, jumping five spots from the previous year. Despite recent unrest in the country, Istanbul, Turkey, was in the number two spot. TripAdvisor acknowledged that they were aware of the recent spate of terror attacks in the country but “winners were selected based on the quantity of positive traveler feedback shared on TripAdvisor over a 12-month period” and it also noted that Istanbul’s recognition was consistent as it has been a favorite among millions of travelers worldwide.

Las Vegas moved up two spots to take the number 2 spot. Orlando made the biggest splash. The Florida city jumped 15 spots to number three on the list.
