Edinburgh's compact nature makes it the perfect place to explore with kids who will marvel at its medieval structures and its natural wonders. A new article in the Telegraph suggests a variety of places families will find fascinating on their next visit.
Start with the stunning castle.
"Edinburgh Castle is thrillingly stark and creepy. From an outline of courtly music to an examination of gruesome Highlander battlefield practices (with fierce weaponry to illustrate), there's a special event for families every day," writes Sally Peck.
Get out and explore with a visit to Arthur's Seat.
"No one knows how this extinct volcano in Holyrood Park got its name, but romantics think it was the location of Camelot. It's 251 meters high, but if you have enough puff and the right footwear it is a relatively easy climb," suggests Peck.

Make the family feel at home staying in an apartment rather than a hotel.
"Live like a local in the West End, at The Chester Residence, a collection of slick modern apartments hidden in a row of townhouses. Just a 10-minute walk to Princes St, its welcome pack of games, toys and treats - plus the DVD collection - make it a nice break from touring," says Peck.
