Nearly 100 guests are taking legal action against a Greek resort after falling severely ill during their stays this past summer.
The U.K.'s Metro reported the severe stomach bugs that ruined at least two couples' wedding celebrations were believed to be the result of swimming in the hotel's feces-laden pool.
Danielle and Mark Woollaston were staying at the Marelen Hotel in Kalamaki, Greece, with dozens of family and friends ahead of their wedding last August when the outbreak occurred.
"I was suffering from diarrhea, vomiting and horrendous stomach cramps on the actual day of the wedding. It spoilt the day and it is so frustrating and disappointing," Mark Woollaston told Metro. "I didn't get to eat any of my wedding meal that we had paid for due to fearing I would have to go straight to the toilet."
At least 93 people who recently stayed at the hotel have reached out to international personal injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate the outbreak of Cryptosporidium: a parasite often spread through contaminated pool water which causes severe gastric symptoms like diarrhea and vomiting.

"We would encourage anyone who stayed at the Marelen Hotel this summer and has since experienced gastric symptoms to see their GP at the earliest available opportunity," Associate Solicitor and expert international personal injury lawyer for Irwin Mitchell Jatinder Paul told Metro.
"We would also like to speak with them as they may be able to help with our investigations."
According to several guests, the pool was closed for several days because of the feces. The hope for many guests is that an investigation will determine exactly what caused the outbreak and what the hotel could have done to protect guests.
The Woollastons told Metro their $18,000 wedding was ruined. Therefore, they and others will likely be seeking reimbursement if it's uncovered that the hotel could have done more to keep guests safe.
