Humans have flipped the script and now those pesky sharks have nowhere to hide, because a brand new app is causing quite the stir in great white circles at the moment.

It’s called Sharktivity and it’s a technological solution to a shark conundrum.

The app is now available on iOS and promises a tool that will enable its users to view sightings in the area, report some of their own and receive push notifications for various beaches that may be visited by white sharks.

It’s hoped that the app could serve both humans and sharks during the summer months when awareness and location information would be crucial to beach officials.

CNN reports that the app offers some exciting and previously unavailable information to shark-researching amateurs.

According to the report, the app helps locate about 80 sharks that researchers have geo-tagged in the past. This, in conjunction with beachgoer sightings and official reports, will make the app a great reference for anyone with a keen interest in sharks, which we hope is just about anyone heading to the beach this summer.

The app is the brainchild of the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy and its president Cynthia Wigren spoke with CNN on the digital innovation: “Most people have phones with them at the beach, and the reasoning is getting information to them as soon as possible.”

The app is offered free and seems easy to use. Upon opening the app you get an interactive map with a highlight on your location.

From there you can choose a number of options, such a viewing shark alerts, seeing reported shark sightings or, if you happen upon a white shark, a tab that allows you to report the moment for the app to share with all.

Now those frequenting the Atlantic have something to check outside of the usual travel apps when they consider a summer splashing along the beach.
