Amman is the capital city of Jordan, and seems to perfectly blend the local ancient archeological and cultural wonders with the best amenities and conveniences you would expect from a modern city.

With so many diverse attractions, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Here are a few things you won’t want to miss during your visit to Amman courtesy of Delta Vacations.

Tour the Citadel. The city’s main historical and archeological attraction, the Citadel is a fortress that sits at the top of Amman’s tallest hill. Enduring for many centuries, this site offers an assortment of exciting wonders. Among the most popular is the Temple of Hercules.

Journey to the Dead Sea. An easy day trip from Amman, the Dead Sea gets its name from the fact that the water’s extremely high salt content makes it uninhabitable for sea life. It also has geological significance, as it is said to be the lowest point on earth, at more than 1200 feet below sea level. There are several nearby beaches where you can relax and get some sun.

Shop in traditional style. Amman has malls and plenty of modern shopping options, but to truly experience the city’s flavor, you should be sure to stroll the cobblestone streets that are lined with markets and local merchants selling handcrafted wares. This is the perfect place to buy a unique souvenir.

Visit the holy sites. Jordan is home to many holy sites and sacred spaces, and the region surrounding Amman boasts a number of those. The city itself contains locales such as El-Hussein Mosque, but there are also quite a few bus tours that will take you around to see an assortment of religious destinations in the region.

Check out Mount Nebo. While not in Amman itself, this is a sight you won’t be able to miss from the city. It is also conveniently located on the way to the Dead Sea, so it is easy to stop here along your way. One of the main pilgrimage destinations for Christians, it is said to be the place where Moses was given a view of the Promised Land. It is home to a number of historical wonders, including the remnants of a 4th Century church.
