A Special Moment for AmaWaterways in Bordeaux

During a lively wine festival put together by the city of Bourg to commemorate AmaWaterways' new "Taste of Bordeaux" itinerary in April, a special surprise was in store for the river cruise line on this inaugural sailing.

As revelers enjoyed a selection of wines and a commanding view down to the Dordogne River from Maison du Vin, the Connetablie de Guyenne made a surprise visit to induct AmaWaterways into the brotherhood.

While this particular vinous brotherhood was formed in 1952, the appellation "Connetablie" goes back to medieval times, though these days it's more about costume and ceremony than royal allegiances.

And it was quite the ceremony - a procession to the sound of hunting horns, a reading of the group's charter by the Chancelier, then a dubbing of AmaWaterways VIPs with a sacred velte and a swig of wine. Medals and certificates completed the accolades.

Then the partying began again in earnest …
