Growing up in Dresden, Germany makes Kristin Karst, Executive Vice President & Co-Owner of AmaWaterways an authority on the grandeur of Deutschland Christmas Markets. That city happens to stage Germany’s oldest and largest of these holiday-themed markets.

But Dresden isn’t the only game in town. At Nuremberg’s revered Christkindlesmarkt, “The lights twinkle and the aroma of freshly baked gingerbread and mulled wine fills the air,” Karst said. Here, over 100 red-and-white stalls present a broad selection of handmade crafts, glass blown ornaments, wool scarves and mitten, and much, much more.

The holiday spirit extends to AmaWaterways vessels, where the halls are decked and there are such seasonal activities as tree decorating contests and gingerbread-making demonstrations. Each week, there is a special Christmas party with well-practiced crew carolers and a traditional European holiday dinner with regional wines.

There is still time to book an AmaWaterways Christmas Market cruise along the Rhine and Danube, with sailings commencing Nov. 21 and through prime market times from Nov. 25 through Dec. 24.
