The United States Department of Transportation (DOT) has formally
approved American Airlines’ bid to operate nonstop service between New York and
Tokyo.
When it launches on June 28, American will be the only
carrier in the United States to offer nonstop service between New York City’s John
F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Tokyo’s Haneda International Airport
(HND).
Tickets for the New
York-Tokyo route will be available for purchase on February 26.
“American looks forward to launching flights between JFK and
HND this summer,” American Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule
Planning Brian Znotins said. “This new service will complement flights offered
by our joint business partner, Japan Airlines, giving more ways for our
customers travel between the U.S. and Japan.”
Along with partner Japan Airlines, the route between JFK and
HND will have up to three daily flights, operating at convenient times
throughout the day. American’s new service will offer roundtrip connections to
more than 30 cities across Japan and East Asia.
In total, the joint business partnership between American
and Japan Airlines will offer customers up to 17 daily flights between the
continental U.S. and Japan next summer, including 10 daily flights to HND.
