Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Braces for Significant Parking Changes

Travelers choosing to park at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport can anticipate some new challenges beginning Monday when airport officials will shut down the South Economy Parking Lot to make way for a new parking structure.

The closure will temporarily eliminate more than 3,000 spots, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.

"We’re really excited about the program, but I’m just going to get to the point, it’s not going to be very nice," said Jai Ferrel, an airport deputy general manager.

"Once completed, this structure would tremendously benefit our passengers in terms of space availability, technology and convenience," added another airport deputy general manager, Jan Lennon.

The first parking deck, which will cost $514 million, is slated to open in late 2026 with nearly 7,000 spaces and smart technology features. It's one of three that will be constructed at the domestic terminal over the next 10 to 15 years.

Airport officials believe they will have enough parking for at least 30 to 50 years once all of the planned upgrades are completed.
