An easyJet flight to England was forced to make an emergency landing 800 miles out of the way Friday after crew members discovered a passenger had brought her own alcohol on the plane.
According to the Liverpool Echo, easyJet Flight EZY7124 was en route from Alicante, Spain, to Liverpool, England, when attendants confronted the woman about bringing her own booze onboard the plane.
The woman became agitated, and the pilot of the flight called for an emergency landing in Bordeaux, France, where the plane was met by police when it landed safely. Officers boarded the plane, escorted the woman off and placed her inside a police car, according to witnesses.
"EasyJet can confirm that flight EZY7124 from Alicante to Liverpool diverted to Bordeaux due to a passenger on board behaving disruptively," an EasyJet spokesperson told the Mirror. "The safety and welfare of our passengers and crew is easyJet's highest priority. easyJet's crew are trained to assess and evaluate all incidents. In total, the flight was delayed for more than two hours before it was allowed to take off again and complete its journey to Liverpool. It is unclear if charges will be brought against the disruptive passenger.
"Whilst such incidents are rare, we take them very seriously do not tolerate abusive or threatening behavior on board and always push for prosecution," the EasyJet spokesperson continued.
"Police met the aircraft on landing and the passenger was escorted from the aircraft. The aircraft has since continued to Liverpool and we would like to apologize to all passengers for any inconvenience caused by the delay."
