Delta Air Lines is doing away with service from two more cities this summer, announcing it will pull out of La Crosse, Wisconsin and State College, Pennsylvania on June 5.
Delta subsidiary Endeavor Air currently operates once-daily Delta Connection flights between Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport and La Crosse Regional Airport and twice-daily service from LaGuardia Airport to University Park Airport via CRJ-900 aircraft.
Impacted customers will receive offers for alternative options from nearby airports or full refunds, the airline confirmed.
"Delta will temporarily suspend Delta Connection service in La Crosse, Wis. (LSE), and State College, Penn. (SCE)," carrier spokesperson Drake Castañeda told The Points Guy. "Delta continues to evaluate the regional market, monitoring regional carrier pilot availability and customer demand. Affected customers will be proactively notified by Delta and re-accommodated accordingly. We apologize to customers for any inconvenience these changes may cause."
Like the airline industry as a whole, Delta continues to navigate staffing challenges in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis.
In addition to La Crosse and State College, other small markets that have been cut by Delta since the pandemic include Akron, Ohio; Cody, Wyoming; Durango, Colorado; Erie, Pennsylvania; Flint, Michigan; Fort Smith, Arkansas; Grand Junction, Colorado; Lincoln, Nebraska; Manchester, New Hampshire; New Bern, North Carolina; Newburgh, New York; Newport News, Virginia; Peoria, Illinois; Santa Barbara, California and Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
