There will soon be significantly more airlift between the United States and Dominican Republic, thanks to a planned network expansion from Dominican carrier Arajet.

The Santo Domingo-based airline just launched a new route from Punta Cana (PUJ) to Florida’s Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) on October 26. The new flight is currently the only active international service at Orlando Sanford.

Arajet began its operations in 2022 and has since become the largest carrier in the Dominican Republic. In 2025, it has rapidly expanded its nonstop service to the U.S., launching its first route to America in April with nonstop flights to Miami (MIA). The carrier then launched flights to Newark (EWR) and San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU).

“Launching this route at Orlando Sanford is a historic moment that fills us with pride, as we continue to connect the continent with the best value in the market and world-class service,” said Manuel Luna, chief communications and external affairs officer at Arajet. “Florida has become one of our strongest markets in the United States, and this new route builds on the success achieved in Miami, offering more options and convenience to Latin communities across the state.”

In November, the airline plans to launch nonstop flights from Punta Cana to Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Boston (BOS), bringing its total number of U.S. destinations to six.

Arajet’s aggressive expansion plan across the U.S. follows the finalization of the Open Skies treaty between the Dominican Republic and the U.S. that was signed in December 2024. That agreement establishes a modern aviation relationship between the two countries, reduces air travel restrictions, and stimulates travel and new routes.

The airline is considered a low-cost carrier and operates a fleet of single-aisle Boeing 737 Max jets. Aside from the U.S., Arajet serves destinations in Central and South America and across the Caribbean.
